Led by Michael Dziwornu, the research project “Festivalising the Postcolony: Architecture, Leisure, and Political Economy in West African Urban Carnivals” investigates how large-scale festivals and “Detty December” cultures are reshaping urban space, public infrastructures, and political-economic life in West African cities. Through archival work, field-based research and collaboration with local partners, the project examines how architectures of leisure and spectacle intersect with questions of inequality, governance, and the right to the city.
